1,200-watt plug-in solar kits

A 1,200 W plug-in solar kit can mean 1,200 W of panels, 1,200 W of inverter AC output, or both. Check both ratings before buying: the kits below differ in panel capacity, and state laws do not all define their limits the same way.

Who a 1,200 W kit suits

This size suits you if you have room for the panels and your local rules cover the system you choose. Mango Power’s kit has 4 panels totaling 1,200 W; Craftstrom’s equivalent has 6 panels totaling 1,200 W. Neither panel count alone tells you whether the kit fits your balcony.

Most signed laws use a 1,200 W cap. As of October 14, 2026, laws with that cap are in effect in Utah, Maryland, Vermont, and Connecticut; in Maine a 1,200 W kit needs a licensed electrician, a dedicated circuit and notice to the utility, since the limit without conditions is 420 W. California, New Hampshire, and Virginia take effect on January 1, 2027; New Jersey takes effect on March 1, 2027.

A 1,200 W kit is not automatically suitable everywhere, nor is it necessarily your local maximum. Colorado’s HB26-1007 has been in effect since August 12, 2026, with a 1,920 W cap; the law does not say whether this is AC or DC output. Check the state rules rather than treating an absent cap or pending bill as permission to connect.

Check panels, AC output, and certification

Compare panel capacity separately from the inverter’s AC output. EcoFlow’s STREAM Microinverter supplies up to 1,200 W AC, but its bundles include either 400 W or 800 W of panels. The inverter alone includes no panels and was $369 on the official store, checked October 14, 2026.

For matching panel and inverter ratings, Mango Power’s kit has 1,200 W of panels and up to 1,200 W AC output; it was $2,698 on the official store, checked October 14, 2026. Craftstrom’s equivalent has the same ratings and was $2,250 on the official store, checked October 14, 2026. Craftstrom’s larger model has 1,600 W of panels and up to 1,600 W AC output; the seller’s specifications do not establish that you can set it to 1,200 W.

Certification claims need a separate check. EcoFlow’s seller names UL 1741, but its UL 3700 status is not published; Mango Power’s UL 3700 status is also not published. Craftstrom says its equivalent meets UL 3700, but no UL listing was found, so that claim is not evidence of a listing.

What the calculator shows

The calculator gives different annual production for the same equipment depending on location and angle. In Phoenix, 1,200 W of panels on a 1,200 W inverter at 90° produces 1,313 kWh per year, with 0 kWh lost to the inverter limit. At 30°, it gives 2,163 kWh per year, again with 0 kWh lost to the limit.

Extra panel capacity can introduce clipping: energy lost when the inverter output limit constrains production. For 1,600 W of panels on a 1,200 W inverter at 30° in Phoenix, the calculator reports 2,884 kWh produced per year and 32 kWh lost to the limit. This modeled pairing does not establish that a particular larger kit supports that configuration.

These examples do not include energy used at home or annual dollar savings. Production alone cannot supply those missing figures; use the calculator for an estimate based on your address, electricity rate, and use.

Questions

Does a 1,200 W inverter include 1,200 W of panels?

No. EcoFlow’s STREAM Microinverter is rated up to 1,200 W AC, but the inverter-only product includes no panels, and the store’s bundles have 400 W or 800 W of panels.

Is the legal limit panel power or inverter output?

California, Maine and New Hampshire specify AC output, and Vermont limits inverter capacity. For Connecticut, Maryland, New Jersey, Utah and Virginia, the law does not say whether this is AC or DC output.

Will these kits power appliances during an outage?

The sellers’ specifications identify no outage outlet on the EcoFlow inverter or Mango Power’s kit. A 1,200 W AC rating alone does not establish outage capability.
