Octopus plug-in solar review
Octopus sells UK plug-in solar bundles with compliant register entries, but both bundles were sold out on 14 October 2026. Its advertised starting prices were £450 for a single panel and £650 for two panels. The main trade-offs are availability, space for mounting and how much daytime electricity you can use.

Octopus bundles, equipment and prices
Octopus offers a single-panel bundle with 460 W of DC panels and a two-panel bundle with 920 W of DC panels. Both have inverter output up to 800 W AC. Octopus’s press release dated 1 October 2026 advertised starting prices of £450 and £650 respectively, checked 14 October 2026.
Each bundle includes JA Solar panels, a microinverter, a cable with a 3-pin plug and wall or ground mounting equipment. The bundle contents do not list a battery. Octopus’s press release says its Nook Cube battery is planned for next year, rather than available as part of these bundles.
Octopus’s product page said the bundles were sold out when checked on 14 October 2026, consistent with its sell-out announcement of 1 October 2026. The product page asks you to enter your delivery address to see pricing. Treat the advertised starting prices as a reference, not a confirmed delivered quote for your address.

Octopus has a compliant register entry
The ENA Type Test Register lists Octopus Energy’s M1-800-E as compliant, under entry OCTOQ/21124/V1/A5. That entry was published on 8 September 2026 and was present at the check on 14 October 2026. The Octopus bundle listings identify both bundles as compliant.
The legal limit is 800 W of maximum rated AC output, not panel DC wattage. That distinction allows the two-panel bundle’s 920 W of panels to be paired with an inverter capped at 800 W AC. SI 2026/848 also requires compliance with the Plug-in Solar Device Interim Product Specification, rather than treating the output limit alone as sufficient.
Octopus says customers can set up its kits without an electrician or professional installation. That is the seller’s statement about its kits, not a general approval for every solar product with a plug. Use the approved-kit register guide to check the exact model rather than relying on the brand name.
Where the bundles fit UK rules
The Octopus bundles fit the output and register checks for plug-in solar under the rules in effect since 27 August 2026. The regulations describe equipment that generates electricity directly from sunlight, connects through a standard plug and socket, and operates in parallel with the network. The plug provisions extend across the UK, while the installation and operation amendment extends to England, Wales and Scotland.
A battery that charges from your socket is not automatically covered by these solar rules. The legal definition excludes equipment designed to draw electricity from the home for storage and later supply, apart from permitted control or auxiliary functions. DESNZ also says the specification does not extend to other plug-in technologies such as plug-in batteries.
Your daytime consumption matters when choosing between the bundles. For London SW postcodes, the calculator gives the single-panel bundle 342 kWh a year, with 84% used at home and £76 in annual savings; the two-panel bundle gives 685 kWh a year, with 58% used at home and £104 in annual savings. Use the postcode calculator rather than treating those examples as your expected result.

Who should consider another kit
Octopus is not a suitable immediate purchase if you need a kit while its bundles remain sold out. UKSOL’s Plug-In Solar Pro 460W Compact is an alternative with 460 W of panels, output up to 800 W AC and compliant register status. Its official-site price was £599, checked 14 October 2026; check availability separately.
EcoFlow also has compliant UK plug-in solar entries, including EF-PS-800 + SPDG505-N108R12. However, the exact register match for the official-store STREAM microinverter bundle with 1,000 W of panels was not confirmed at the check. That bundle was £549 on 14 October 2026, so its price alone is not enough to establish that it is the same approved configuration.
The larger Octopus bundle is less compelling if you cannot use much of its extra daytime generation. In the London calculator example, it produces more electricity but uses a smaller share at home. Compare the equipment and register status in the UK kit comparison, rather than choosing solely by panel wattage.
Buying, delivery and warranty checks
Buy through Octopus’s product page when ordering reopens, or use its restock notification option. The listed dual-panel price of £650 includes VAT and kerbside delivery, checked 14 October 2026. Neither that delivery wording nor the self-installation claim establishes a warranty term; check the warranty and support terms before paying.
For existing orders, Octopus gives different delivery windows according to the order date. It aims for late October or mid-November for orders from 11 September onwards, and the end of November for orders after 28 September. These are delivery aims, not confirmation that new orders are available.
